Watching Music

Uncategorized

A couple of weeks ago, I posted about all the great live music that had heard recently and how its so fun to hear live music.   Going to live music performances is always better than hearing a recording, but particularly for a symphony!  On Saturday night, I got to hear Daniil Trifonov, the winner of the 2011 Tchaikovsky Piano Competition in Moscow, perform with the Signature Symphony.

It was an all Tchaikovsky program:  The Overture from Romeo and Juliet, Piano Concerto No. 1 and The Fifth Symphony.

Here’s a little bit of the Piano Concerto, performed by Lang Lang.  There are so many great moments in this piece!

Its pretty awesome seeing a stage full of musicians working together to create beautiful, complex music.  I especially love watching the strings.  The visual effect of the their bows moving in unison adds a whole new dimension to the music.  You can actually see them feeling and breathing the music together.

And of course, seeing a super talented soloist perform is always a treat!  His performance was strong and impressive for a 20 year old (!) pianist.
