Piano In The Park

We’re really fortunate to have great parks by our river here in Tulsa! Just down the street from my studio, is kind of the hub of the park systems where there is a play ground, covered pavilion, running and biking trails, disc golf courses and open green space. Occasionally, you’ll find musicians, artists or street performers hanging around at this park. I’ve always thought it would be fun to take a keyboard over to the park and let my students jam.

It finally worked out for us to perform at the park this past spring. April and May are always so busy between competitions and recitals, but we found an open weekend with beautiful weather and a handful of my students came to play. I let them play as many or as few songs as they wanted. Some did a practice run of their recital songs, some played through all of their favorites and some played their recently polished competition piece in a more relaxed setting.

I always love letting my students play in different environments! The park was definitely a fun and unique atmosphere. I hope it will work out for us to go back again soon!
